Illustrated Book Series
I created a three‑book illustrated series as personalized “Welcome to the Family” gifts for new babies in my family. Each book introduces the child to their parents, siblings, grandparents, and extended family through warm illustrations and simple, heartfelt language.
Though these were one‑off gifts, the project showcases my editorial design, illustration, narrative pacing, and print‑ready layout skills across multiple volumes

The Approach
I developed a soft, welcoming illustration style using gentle colors, rounded shapes, and expressive characters to create a sense of warmth and belonging. Each book follows a simple narrative structure: “Welcome to the family — here’s who loves you.”
Every spread introduces a new family member with a custom illustration and a short, heartfelt line of text. The pacing is intentionally calm and steady, guiding the reader through a loving introduction to the people who will shape the child’s world.
To unify the series, I built a shared visual system — typography, color palette, layout rhythm — while allowing each book to reflect the unique personality of the family it represents.
I start each spread by finding a photo of the family member(s) I want to feature, then illustrate them in my soft style. This side‑by‑side shows the inspiration photo next to the final illustration, capturing how each person is transformed into the book’s gentle, welcoming world.
After illustrating each family member, I write a short description that introduces them to the new baby; who they are, how they’re related, and a few of their favorite things. These little details help bring each person to life and make the book feel personal and welcoming.
The Outcome
The Welcome to the Family series became a heartfelt keepsake for each family, celebrating new beginnings through gentle illustration and thoughtful design. The project demonstrates my ability to create multi‑volume editorial work, build cohesive visual systems, and craft emotionally resonant storytelling, which are all skills that translate directly into professional book design, children’s publishing, and narrative‑driven creative work.
